We all know the old song more points in dex less in vitality. If i wanna do WSK and CHAOS runs am i going to suffer, because i have no block?
Personally i think dim vision, attract and the summons should be plenty of enough to keep me safe, or am i underestimating ranged attackers like gloams and etc?|||Quote:

You won't be able to block gloams anyways.
I really don't think it gives you an edge. If your skellies, mages, golems, merc, bonewall, curses are not enough, two words: you suck.|||Max block for a summoner is more of a pvp thing.|||between the army, golem, merc and Dim Vision, i find my skellynec doesn't get hit often enough to warrant max block.|||I use to have a vita/mage fishy and mostly play from behind my army, but once I started telebombing I got eaten. You can play a lot more aggressively and carelessly with max block (also skipped mages and put spare points into bone armor synergies) which speeds up runs considerably.|||The question isn't if it is necessary. The question is what are the other options?
Energy isn't needed, necro gear is easy to wear so strength isn't an issue. At level 85 you need to spend 168 points in dex to get max block with Homunculus, so the trade off is max block or 336 health. Many choose max block because 336 health only buys you one or two hits is act 5 hell.|||If you play for speed, max block is very useful. I never play without it on my necro.
However, you could quite easily make a necro without max block and shuffle slowly along behind your army and be quite safe for the most part.
With an enigma, I prefer max block along with dim vision for ranged mobs.|||The only time I'd like good blocking is with mass swarms of cat slingers in act 5 nightmare/hell.|||It most depends of your playing style.
Fishy was my first ladder character then I must use crap equip on him. I had eth magefist found on norm Meph. It does not lost any single point of durability althought my character died few times before I finished hell. It means then resistances are more important then block or defence. Moreover I do not use dim vision nor terror (only decrep and LT).|||I've been doing Hell difficulty area runs for 3-4 days now and i have absolutely no need for max block whatsoever, but that might change when i get enigma, as some ppl have already pointed out.
My typical MF run: Act1 pit, Travincal High Council, River of Flame, Chaos+Dia, Pindleskin+Frigid bosses, WSK+Baal.
Resists are maxed out and light is 86 with absorb thx to Thundergods Vigor.
My gear isn't finished yet, but the char is a complete killing machine with CE-i think it's my best area runner i have ever done.
My MF is under 200 i think, but i've built him for doing area runs, in which i'm focused more on finding Hr's and socketables, not just the occasional uniques and sets.
