The State of Necro PvP

I've been out of the game for about 2 years now, and I was just wondering what the state of Necromancer PvP was. Are Bone necros still viable? (I'd be going all Vit). Are other classes overpowered/owning them, or is it still fun to play with the right gear? Is there a new type of necro to play? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!|||I don't do a lot of PVP. As a matter of fact I haven't since last ladder season. Regardless, a Necro has some good PVP options on his side. He has Bone Spirit, which is basically like a homing device and has decrpify to slow and weaken targets and also bone prison to trap targets (but you have to have pretty high skills for players to not break the bone prison quickly usually.) If they can teleport then bone prison doesn't help much.

I don't have much for tips other than to make yourself a good white wand runeword.|||Bone PvP Necro 1

Bone PvP Necro 2

Poison PvP Necro 1

Poison PvP Necro 2

From what I've read, Bone Necros are completely owned by ES Sorcs, but otherwise they are still a mainstream PvPing class.|||bone necros are still one of the stronger pvp classes, and integral to the standard 4v4 team pk lineup (wind druid, bvc, trapper, and necro)

and yes bone necros have counters, but so is the nature of d2 - it's not really balanced for pvp and every build has some form of a counter|||Thanks for the feedback guys.

As far as counters go, I still prefer D2 PvP to the arena in WoW. If you're going to get owned by another class, at least you're going to get owned in about 10 seconds as opposed to dragging out something stupid for 5 minutes.

Speaking of, who are the natural counters to bone necros? Somebody said ES sorcs, I think maybe a Wind druid with a big stack. What else? I'm just curious.

Those things being said, I went ahead and rolled my PvP Bonemancer the other night - level 30 now |||Its hard to beat a BM bone necro with summons and revives & enchant.|||Quote:

ES sorcs are the natural counter, hands down. Windies can be difficult if you're not used to dueling them, but you naturally have a higher fcr than them and if you use walking/spear effectively, they're not that bad.

Then again, I haven't duelled since 1.11 but I assume it's all the same since then, though ES sorcs may be more popular now.

-f|||Another question on this about poisonmancers.

I understand that poisonmancers are countered by bonemancers (this is fine with me). What I REALLY want to know is

Can poisonmancers own: hammerdins, trapsins, light javazons, and sorcs? Do they have a chance against these classes, and does poison nova with all the right skill points and gear still savagely destroy somebody's health orb like it used to? What classes do poisonmancers have an advantage over that bonemancers don't?

I'm thinking about rolling a second necro now that I'm high 80s with my bonemancer. I certainly need to perfect his gear still, but I want a little "insurance" when I run in to a class I can't beat.

Also, unrelated to this, but i'll mention it just because I think its cool, I'm making 4 total characters named after the 4 Horsemen. Death is the bonemancer, Pestilence will be the poisonmancer, i'm thinking Famine is a fishymancer. Not sure about War, I might have to break the necromancer trend for a paladin or barb unless somebody can give me a good suggestion |||It can kill in gm but if they go bm it doesnt kill anything, so you would need to get a bonemancer with revives anyway |||Quote:

What were you referring to here?

I actually used a respec to switch to a Poisonmancer, and so far I like it better in every regard than a bonemancer for both PvP and PvM. The one drawback is PvM seems a bit more dangerous and Act bosses are tougher - but I kill everything else way faster.
