Gear for noobie summoner?

Hello this will be my first post on these forums so first off hello everyone ha.

anyways I am a summoning Necro and I need some advice as far as what gear to aim for. Im level 27 and my stats are coming along how I planned, but I have not half a clue what gear I should be aiming for? should I put gems into sockets? runewords? I am on the third quest in act V and I have a ton of gems in my stash and a ton of runes as well, should I put them in my armor? I know that I will find better armor so that makes me curious as to whether I should save them or not? cuz I am running out of room in my stash thats how many I have. Also what is a good set of green items that I should try and aim for or should I not? I just have no idea what direction to go in. ALSO: I am singleplayer so like Im not doing PVP or anything just fighting monsters. thanks.

also what weapons of course, right now I have a wand that does 3 to Corpse Explosion which I haven't touched yet, so it helps me, and my second set is just an axe that I use to help my skeletons kill stuff, what weapons should I use? always a wand? should I get a strong weapon and just beat the hell out of stuff?|||There are some fun melee summoner builds that you could do but they don't work as well untwinked. As your first char, stick with a wand with good +skills. Course it can be kind of boring to just sit back and watch so if you want to do something interesting, pick up a bow or crossbow, stick some damage gems or a runeword in there, and hang back and shoot stuff while your skeletons, merc, and clay golem tank for you.

For gear, what you should look for are +skills, health and mana, resists, and then str, in that order of priority (the strength is to help equip better gear). Gems in good socketed magic/rare gear can be good for a boost since gems are so easy to come by. There are a lot of good lower level, cheap runewords too; White, Spirit, Lore, Stealth, and Smoke. I won't list uniques or sets since those can't be counted on to drop really but there's a lot of good ones.|||All you really need to focus on are your skill levels and resists. Oh, and decent gear for your merc.|||thanks for the advice, its also taking extremely long for me to kill baal.... much longer than diablo and I thought that was taking a long time, I had either him or his clone down to 30% and the other at half and then I come back with a new army and its just 1 baal at 100% what the hell! this is going to take FOREVER. On higher difficulties do diablo and baal really take this long every time? because this is super annoying.|||You should not be fighting Baal at level 27. More like level 40 with maxed skeletons & mastery. It does take a while, but that's just because Baal has lots of HP.|||what can I do to level up, just Meph runs? that sounds like it would get extremely boring until im like 40.....

also i killed baal at 32.|||I did basically all the quests on normal difficulty save Nilathak, and in the process of doing that I got to level 40. That's what I meant, mostly, not that there's some kind of minimum level requirement. Level 32 is about where I fought Diablo.

Also, my previous point still stands. Baal has way more HP than other act bosses, and on top of that his clone will draw away skeletons.|||Quote:

Alright but do you think that I should try and level up a bit before going to Nightmare? I want it to be fun not a pain in the a$$|||Yes. Be at least level 40 before Nightmare.

Chaos Sanctuary is a good area to run for levels. Skip Diablo if he takes too long, just clear the Sanctuary area.|||Also, you might want to pump in /players8 for faster xp. And I found that the best places for leveling are in act 5. The red portals, the frozen caves, dunno why but my xp just spiked in there. Since you hit Baal at 27 I suppose you didn't use the players8 difficulty. That will really boost your experience gain and items dropped, but monsters will have more hp and do more damage. Also Curse Explosion won't work just as effectively. But it's really worth it.

I have no idea why, but both on normal and nightmare difficulty, Baal didn't make a clone for me. I just ran in there, used a TP scroll to get my army in his face then just pounded him with clay golem + decreptify. He didn't get to teleport, he didn't clone, he used his ice arrow only once in his short life. And he didn't manage to kill a single skeleton. I redid him later, on NM when he cloned, and it is indeed a bish to take him down that way.
