Beast for Summoner worth it?

[:1]Is a Beast BA really worth it (over Hoto) for a summonmancer? It gives my so-powerful-already skeletons and mercenary a bit extra damage and a speed boost, but I'll lose 30 points of resistances and 3 all skills (for curses).

My skeletons do roughly 780 base damage alone, and should be somewhat doubled with my merc's might aura. I'm on non-ladder so I don't have access to a Pride CV/CA, but to me they can't kill hell Baal fast enough in a 8player game.

I've run summoners a long time and I can't imagine needing it. Once there's one body on the ground, the skellies won't get to hit much else anyways.

It might get you a body a split second faster.

If you're not killing baal fast enough, get a guillaime's face for your merc and a duress. Down he goes.|||Yeah, at the time writing I didn't have my merc equipped the good stuff now. Now he has 2amn bonehew, shaft and guillaime.

I guess a Duress eth AP would be fine, but I'll lose the 30 PDR. Is that a bad thing? Some crush/ow over PDR? Duress also adds cold damage, which may shatter the corpses. |||It won't matter.

35 CB is plenty. Stick with SS which is better in my opinion anyways.

But, if you simply were NOT getting baal down fast enough, it would be a CB option. Your merc looks just fine to me.|||Beast is only worth it for ubers but pvm hoto works fine. hoto +skills has all around benefit for all your skill try. Plus I find amp+lvl 12 conv+ce the main killing speed for a summon necro anyways.|||CE is effectively a multiplier of your non-CE killing speed, as the amount of corpses you produce with non-CE abilities is what dictates the speed at which CE can be used. Hence beast -- due to the massive boost it gives to the primary non-CE damage source aka the merc -- is a monster of a weapon, for damage freaks hands down the way to go.|||I once had a beast IG, back in the day when I was unhealthily wealthy (not my fault people give me free stuff!)

Honestly, it was useful (and thankfully never died, Enigma is a necessity) but not tremendous. Since I don't expect anyone to try and work for a beast just for IG (especially when you kinda want Insight there) I'd say no.

As has been mentioned, it's all about CE speed, even in full rooms or /players 8 CE is THE killer. Drop a corpse and you're away. Insight is more useful on an IG and innumerate options are better for the weapon slot. I think this all comes from the aura obsession fishymancers have, I know I've tried to get as many auras as I can before. They're not that useful, in the end.|||what if you throw a cta into the mix though?

For a fishymancer it's rare to need cta imo though. I used to do the three mini ubers (lilith, izual and duriel) solo with no need for it. (Lilith was actually really troublesome, her poison wouldn't be much affected by a cta though)

Basically beast is only worthwhile, as was said, if you're soloing ubers specifically because the corpses aren't there to CE, normal pvm there's little need for the aura, bosses may drop faster but I'd rather have hoto there.|||I used to have beast IG some time ago and here my thoughts.

1) This is expensive itself. Even when I can afford such a forever-loss action, I feel very nervous every time my golem gets in tricky position and tp out. I also watch out to not tp into the middle of angry monsters to not die. All these lowers my killing speed and requires more attention.

2) Still I couldnt keep IG alive. First time it was one-hit by act4 normal doom knight (although it had 2k+ hp on normal due to GM and 17lvl BO). Second time this poison-immune guy was also one-hit by Lilith's poison nova (~8k hp on hell i believe). No more beast IGs for me. Act4 normal doom knights are bugged it seems, as I lose insight golems there pretty often when rushing chars.

3) By making IG of beast, you lose valuable insight slot so you should take care for mana now. Minus speed also.

And there is only one benefit: massive dps increase for both skellies and merc. Beast has also CB on its own which is fine. However, this dps increase doesnt make much sense in any CE-based set-up (everything except boss runs). As said, full mana pool at all times is better than beast in terms of area clearing time.

Regarding bosses and UT, although the benefit is great, I'd better put beast in hoto slot instead of insight. IG is very vulnerable there also.

By replacing hoto with beast, you lose fcr skills and resists. You can sacrifise fcr in UT because you dont need it there (but you should max it for area cleaning), and once you've summoned army (with prebuff set or hoto-spirit) you dont need skills too. Just grab some allres charms (or replace any other gear set with allres stuff) to max resists and you're fine with fanaticism.

I play with hoto and cta on switch. As I've lost my beast IG i dont have beast now but I'll consider having it in stash for ubers.
