Equipment for my Summon Nec's Merc...

What is the most effective equipment setup for him? Currently using an infinity but with some random unique armor and helm i found.|||"Some random unique" doesn't help. They could already be fine.

Just get a high damage weapon for DPS and to get those first few corpses going for your skelies. Infinity works nicely here, so long as it's in a good weapon, if you don't want Insight for the Med aura. For helm and armor, standard gear works here. Guillame's/Fort would be very nice. Andy's helm works if you Ral it for the FR, or even Vamp Gaze/Shaftstop would be perfectly fine.|||So many better things to put in an Andy's than a Ral, especially if you use Fort.

Stick with the Infinity pole. No real point switching to Pride since you already have it. Insight is nice, but by the time you can afford Infinity your Necro should have enough mana on his own to make-do without it.

If you can get a Fortitude on your merc then you have resists and defense pretty well taken care of. Beyond that, just pick something with life leech for the headgear. There's easily a dozen choices, there, and while some are better than others it's hard to go wrong so long as there's at least some life leech on it.

Chains of Honor is also deserving of a mention, even though it's got way less defense than Fortitude. It has a little bit of everything, so any decent piece of headgear with life and defense would cover the rest.

If you're going with Uniques then Iron Pelt, Duriel's, and Shaftstop are cheap and can be combined with a leech helm for the all-around setup like Fortitude. GBane works as well. It is a bit more expensive, but a good one is very much worth it.|||I generally use on my Summoners merc.

Infinity

Andys visage

+2 To All Skills

20% Increased Attack Speed

8-10% Life Stolen Per Hit

+25-30 To Strength

+10% To Maximum Poison Resist

Fire Resist -30%

Poison Resist +70%

This is probably the single best merc helm in the game with 2 to all skills which increases his natural aura, 20 ias for easier hitting of breakpoints, Covers your life leech and has 30 Strength which translates to around 30% ed iirc. The resists have a special mention because imo poison is the most dangerous element that threaten his/her safety and this helm has tremendous bonuses to poison resists at the expense of fire. Best of all this has a open socket which can fill the holes in his equipment.

CoH or Fort....

Ive used both and to be honest, Fort beats the hell out of CoH if you have the rest of the bases covered. If you use infinity + Guillaumes you need CoH but if you use andys, Just use fort.

Of course this is providing that your character and merc are around level 85 so that the Fort can near enough max his resists.|||I currently use Insight, Guilliames, and a Stone armor. I like this setup because it gives the merc CB, gives me Meditation, and cost me zero high runes. Even without LL, my merc rarely ever dies. The only time he bites the dust is when he acts in a braindead manner and dives head first into the wrong group of monsters (i.e. my skellies run at one pack and my merc slams straight into a completely different group). Even then I can usually prevent him from humiliating himself by using a Tele charge.|||I know it's not wicked aura'd, but how would a Crescent Moon work on a merc? The stats are sweet, the individual dps is high and Cb from Guillaumes couples with Static Field rather nicely.

I'm currently looking for a base for it, just got the runes. Other gear is Guillaumes and Duriel's shell. I can do better, but highly unlikely since I'm playing SP untwinked.|||Get a bonehew and save the um for something better, Like duress for a merc|||Actually, Um doesn't really seem to be such a rare find in 1.13. This is my last Um, but I already used 2 of them for a Bone armor for the Necro. I can't really count on a Bonehew dropping, though that would be a nice dream. And about the Duress, it is nice but it has quite a few useless stats for a merc, the cold damage being my main fear. The defense is sweet though. I might make one if I find some op elite armor with 3 sockets before I find some op elite polearm with 3 sockets. Maybe another Um will drop in the meantime :P.|||I think the CTCs on Crescent Moon aren't good enough to make up for the weapon's relatively poor damage. Even with Jab, 7% just won't trigger often enough. If your current pole doesn't have some 200% ED on it, then sure, go for Crescent Moon. Otherwise I say save the Um.|||Mine's currently using insight, that gladiator armour and the thieves crowny thing. I wanna make a bramble for him, just for more aura fun than anything else ^^

It depends on what you need, mine never dies, since I tele (eni) and do a LOT of MF'ing and rushing my char likes to be safe in the knowledge his mana wont go down, no matter what he does, since he doesnt need the kill power, it's fine. Though iirc there's a runeword which gives conc aura...might go for that and do a little jiggling with my pots...

Basically, ll and fhr are god. Auras are top notch bonuses, preferably damage based (though there is an argument for lowering their resists for CE) but really, it's your merc, give em what they need. Is he dying too much? If so, why? elements? give him resis, physical? ll and fhr. So on and so forth.
