I have a summonmancer playing hell difficulty and would like to make a decent Iron Golem. Obviously the main plan for me is to make a Insight Iron Golem after I get the runes to make Infinity or Pride for my Merc and Beast for my character. However, I am not rich or anything and don't really have the ability to go out and make a Beast or Infinity anytime soon. I don't bot or anything silly like that so finding Ber's/Cham's and really high runes is hard for me.
So I was thinking the main plan I would like to implement for now is to make an Iron Golem that is capable of staying alive to do constant thorns damage. So I was thinking, I have a Aldur's Rhythm 3-OS mace and was wondering if it is a good idea to possibly put 2 or 3 Amn Runes in it to get a high Life Leech. It already has 10%, and with 2 Amns would be 24%, 3 would be 31%. I also have a +30% Enhanced damage jewel, so I could go 2 amns + that so that my Golem does a bit more damage (the mace would be something like 66-102 with extra lighting damage or something with the 30% jewel) as well as having high Leech.
Thoughts? If no, what do you think is a good low level item to make him out of?|||Basically I would go for any weapon that you find that has crushing blow.Ik mauls come to mind, They drop frequently and are decent considering the mods and also comes with 2 sockets. His damage isnt going to be very high in the first place so work on using mods to increase his resistances which iirc can cause full immunity golems which make decent tanks.
IK gives most bang for your buck so to speak|||Agree on the IK Maul suggestion. Those things drop so much that I don't even pick them up anymore...|||Windhammer, kelpie or razortine (dunno if i spell'd it right.)|||Kelpie Snare has 75% slow as its main feature, Razortine has only 25%. But I'd say a resummonable Clay Golem would be a better choice than both, as the slow effect also is triggered by monsters hitting the golem, not just the other way around.
I'd have to say that Crushing Blow seems much better for an Iron Golem. Life leech is probably insignificant compared to the life regen the golem already has, though I suppose that with a big damage weapon life leech might be significant enough to be worth it. But 31% of 66-102 (plus the golem's base damage) isn't that much, is it? Seems mostly like a waste of runes to me, and you'd be better off making the golem from a big damage weapon and use Life Tap whenever the golem seems to get low on life. Though, just as with regular life leech, that won't help much against Physical Immunes.|||If your merc has CB, you should stick with a clay golem for the hit slows target on it.
If your merc doesn't have CB, you should use a cheap item with CB. Lots of these are mentioned above (except Windhammer, those aren't cheap) and another is a non-eth Hone Sundan. 45% CB and 3 sockets. People don't like the non-eth ones, however, because the thing has a built-in self repair mod (and spears are generally unpopular anyway).
