just have a couple of quick questions for you experts!
build etc: level 88 fishymancer, hardcore, singleplayer 1.13c with runeword mod, selffound gear only, no muling.
at the moment my merc is using insight in a regular cryptic axe with stats :
15 med aura
246% ED
240% AR
4 CS
and in my stash I have a colossus voulge insight with :
13 med aura
260% ED
222% AR
6 CS
only problem is the CV requires 210 strength , so my merc needs a few more levels or some gear with strength on it.
anyway,
question 1: Assuming we roll a perfect insight, (or average roll, the more info you give me the more happy I am :P )
what is the best base to put it in for my act2 merc and for what reason? (please be specific in your answer if you have definite knowledge on this matter!)
seems to me cryptic axe has highest average damage of all the polearms? but why are most people using insight in an ethereal CV?
(im on the hunt for an ethereal CA/CV to socket still)
2. second question!
This is my mercs gear atm :
upgraded undead crown
upgraded duriels shell
insight cryptic axe
any immediate suggestions? (consider its singleplayer with runewordmod, no trading, no muling)
I was thinking about finding a Guilleamus face and socket it with a perfect skull for lifeleech perhaps?
3. Last question :
It feels like my own gear is not that important since its a fishy,
I switch between MF gear with a teleportcirclet and "anti-gloam" gear when its needed (superstacked lightresistance and wisp projector ring, my necro laughs at gloams with that setup),
but would still appreciate any tips on gear for my situtation , so to speak(singleplayer fishy with RWM and no muling) !

EDIT : I would just like to add I don't have any problems whatsoever with killing etc since im a fishy, but killing act bosses is a little slow and a bit faster killing wouldnt be bad on /players 4 and up !|||I dont think fishymancer needs "perfect" meditation from insight. I use 4s polearms to make random insights and create IG from them and I'm happy with any roll (however i havent ever got 12, but 13 was fine to me).
Mana regeneration bases on mana pool although and it probably does make some sense if you have low mana pool (because i have it boosted by gear, mana charms and CTA on switch). Back to the point, you probably wont benefit much from 15->17 medi unless you're teleporting a lot. But sorry for OT.
All elite polearms have exactly the same dps assuming you dont have IAS gear on them. CV has the highest MAX damage so players can say "my merc has 10k dmg" when they actually have 2-10k which 6k average, but merc stats look more stylish than 5-7k damage (which is 6k average too but 10 >> 7

If you decide to use insight as merc weapon (which is definetely not as effective as insight IG, but without enigma it will be hard keeping that golem alive and you still will lose golems sometimes regardless), pick Thresher. It is the fastest among all polearms and has decent reqs. Why speed over damage? Killing act bosses, especially baal, takes some time so you might opt having some CB on your merc for that reason. Striking speed just helps to deliver CB hits faster. If you're fine for normal monsters, but have problems with act bosses only, use the thresher to make obedience (it will have 5 socks from larzuk) and carry it in cube to give your merc in baal's chamber.
Socketing Helm with pskull will give HP/MP regen (not life leech) as i know.|||thanks for the answer!

Let me do some math for you.
Colossus Voulge 17-165 (91 avg) Damage Weapon Speed: 10
Cryptic Axe 33-150 (91.5 avg) Damage Weapon Speed: 10
Ogre Axe 28-145 (86.5 avg) Damage Weapon Speed: 0
Great Poleaxe 46-127 (86 avg) Damage Weapon Speed: 0
Thresher 12-141 (76.5 avg) Damage Weapon Speed: -10
Giant Thresher 40-114 (77 avg) Damage Weapon Speed: -10
Weapon speed 10 means it is roughly 10% slower than 0 (-10 is 10% faster than 0). Note that the more speed weapon has, the less damage it deals so all elite polearms are "balanced". To calculate dps for each of them, you should know merc's level, type and IAS on weapon/gear/auras. I dont bother calculating dps and choose thresher to land CB hits more often and that's it.
Assuming you didnt mean to troll me with that 15ed eth - non-eth comparison: of course eth weapon has more dmg than non-eth, and even more with 15%ed. Any eth elite polearm with 15ed will have superior damage to any other non-eth non-ed


Not really important in intermittent combat versus monsters but coupled with crushing blow (from any source) boss killing speed increases dramatically.|||hmmm,
is it safe to say that a giant thresher is the best base for insight, damage-wise?
