Necromancer a hero?

Diablo is the only franchise I know where his actions are not condemned as evil. In every other game I know of, animating dead bodies and skeletons to serve you is considered an evil act, since it enslaves the person's soul- that the dead should rest in peace.|||If you have the Diablo 2 instruction manual, there is some Necromancer lore in there that is rather interesting to read. I'm sure it is online as well.

In summary, though, Necromancers seeks a balance of both good and evil, and they see the Prime Evils entering the world as upsetting that balance. And though they are generally looked down upon/disliked (see Gheed's intro speech when playing a Necromancer), people are desperate enough to accept whatever aid they can. Similar to the WC3 story-line where Humans and Orcs call for a truce to combat a greater evil.|||IIRC, the cult of rhatma was "True Neutral", changing even to the side losing in order to balance it out.|||can't say the seedy white dude look is wholesome though lol|||Quote:

In typical medieval-based fantasy settings, bodies of the dead are considered "sacred," so using them is generally seen as a bad thing.

This isn't always true, though. Guild Wars' Necromancers, for example, aren't seen as villains. GW, I believe, was made by some of the same people as Diablo.
