MF-ing with Poison Nova or Bone Spear - Which is stronger, which is cheaper?

[:1]So lets say I have the following (but not limited to) items:

Shako

Mara

Spider belt

2x SoJ

Mage Fists/Trang Gloves

Treks

HoTO

Spirit Monarch

Enigma

From this, can you tell me:

1. Which does more AoE damage?

2. Which kills faster?

3. Is it more likely that monsters will be immune to poison or magic damage?

4. Which one can do Diablo with less problems?

5. Which can do Baal with less problems?

6. Would it be better if I traded off some power for more MF (like swap out gloves/soj/boots for mf counterparts)?|||As long as your main damage spell remains corpse explosion, there isnt any much difference in what way you get your first corpse. Anyway, bone spear doesnt do aoe damage (it passes through bodies however but its not enough) so poison nova is better for non-ce builds. Then you will probably want to switch enigma with bramble runeword and get some teleport charges amulet, circlet or naj's on switch.

add: ce does half fire, half physical damage and given the fact you have access to lower resist/amplify damage, there are NO monsters in the game that are completely immune to CE. I'm not sure if lower resist lowers poison res (probably it does), and use your merc for unbreakable poison immunes.|||Well, I don't really want to use CE; that's just too many buttons to press imo. I want to play a char that just needs to teleport them spam a spell, yet deals good AoE damage + is strong.|||Maybe you should just make a hammerdin if you don't want to use corpse explosion, lol.

Anyway poison nova is obviously going to be better AoE damage, since it is, you know, actually AoE. For a bonemancer bone spear gets the first corpse up faster, so you can start spamming corpse explosion. If you don't want to use corpse explosion a bonemancer is crap.

Poison nova can still be okay, but you'll still need to use corpse explosion at the very least against poison immunes (merc kills a couple, you corpse explode). Lower resist will be your curse, obviously.|||A Pvm necro who doesn't use Corpse explosion will never be close to as good as one who does. It is one of the fastest killing spells in the entire game. Trust me, one extra hotkey is well worth the trouble.|||If you're bored of CE and want to kill quickly then Nova is your only real option. Use Trang gloves/belt/shield for the poison bonuses and you're good to go. As already said, you'll definitely want 1-pt CE in any case.

That being said, if you've got Enigma then a plain old summoner is really the most durable and powerful of the necro builds (and you can add most versatile to that if you've got Infinity). A pimped out Nova build surpasses it in full games I think.|||As hubb as mentioned a fully supplied psn necro will probably do more then a summoner in full games as the effectiveness of corpse explosion decreases in games over about 3 players (but still it only takes 3 corpse explosions to clear an area in 8 player games) If you really want to max out your psn necro damage Then you will use something along the lines of the following setup:

Trang gloves (25% psn dmg)

Trang belt

Trang shield (3 pieces grants -25% psn resistance on the shield) (psn facet)

2 Sojs (or faster cast rate rings)

Bramble armor (varies from 25%-50% psn dmg)

Death Web wand (varies from -40% to -50% psn res, 2 pnb skill prefered) (psn facet)

Amulet is up for debate, mara's would work if lacking resist, but something with fcr is probably going to do better, either a 2 necro or 3 pnb

Shako probably with a facet, unless you can find a great necro circlet with skills and sockets

Boots can be whatever fills in the gaps, probably something with decent frw so you can move around easily

Of course your skills will be Poison Nova and its two synergies, and you will want to have a decent level lower resist and a golem to tank for you.|||Quote:

heh, not a whole lot of mf on that set up...|||Quote:

Ok, so if we want to vary it up a little bit to match what the op would like to use the build for then shooting for somewhere around ~200% mf is probably sufficient and will do the job well.

If were going with that recommendation use the setup previously mentioned but swap out with the following:

Shako with a Ptopaz (74% mf)

2 nagel rings (20% - 30% mf each) (60 mf with perfect)

War Traveler boots (40% - 50% mf)

Right there we are looking at 154% - 184% and overall we lost 2 skills and some resits but we did not sacrifice almost any killing power. If you can get a gheeds in your inventory it will round it out to somewhere around 200 magic find without taking to much inventory space. Expanding further than that can be done, but I dont really see it necessary to go far above 200% magic find since that will find you a decent amount of gear.|||Ist in death's web for an extra 20(? i forgot) mf

between bramble, death's, trang's and LR I don't think you really need a lot of facets.
