today my fishy looks something like this :
lvl 91.5
skills:
maxed skills : RS, SM, RSM, CE
1 point skills : CG, GM, teeth, BA, AMP, DECREP, DV, terror, weaken
rest: 13 points in summon resist
then +2 all from shako, +2 summoning necro head and arm of king leoric (rest of gear is MF stuff, wealth dusk shroud chancies goldwrap rare mf boots nagelring/wisp projector and teleport amulet)
merc has :
double upgraded undead crown
upgraded duriels shell
insight in cryptic axe
(keep in mind im all selffound, singleplayer)
this setup is cheap and owns everything , but ofcourse we always strive for improvement right?
thing is on players 1-3 its just too easy, not breaking a sweat anywhere, but with players 8 it can get a bit rough at times!
so I was thinking about this (for players8 solo clears of all areas)
making that insight into an maxed iron golem and its synergies instead of skele mages/summon resist? (for survival) to provide the mana so we can optimize merc for killspeed/damage (for players8 solo clears)
and on merc instead put guillie helm + obedience eth thresher , but we lose lifesteal with guillie helm, and we lose cannot be frozen mod from duris shell.
maybe if I find a cham then we could socket that into guillie helm for example, and if I find ber then id make chains of honor for him (lifesteal/resists/damage), (atm only found ohm mal um pul !)
but until i find either cham or ber then merc =
might merc lvl 91.5
guillie helm
obedience eth thresher (+30 all res from obedience = 75 all res)
armor = duress/upgraded skin of the flayed one ?
the only thing missing here then would be cannot be frozen mod... but damage would be sick!
and the next final part of my question/rant is :
will a maxed insight iron golem survive in hell /players 8 ? (i have tele amulet until i find that ber+jah!) can it be oneshotted? what skills are most important for its survival to max?
hope you understood all of this nonsense, would appreciate any and all input and feedback!
Kind Regards,|||single player?|||^"(keep in mind im all selffound, singleplayer)"
P5 is alright, but running at P7/8 will not be worth it no matter what equipment you get on your summoner.
Summon resist is a 1-pt wonder. Mages don't do all the much for you, especially without constant use of teleport, so I'd drop the points there and try the golem. Golem mastery increases his life so max that, other than that there's not much to do.|||I'm losing IG sometimes even on p1 but keeping him alive is probably easier on single player. Given the rw value (any 4s pole, 4 low runes), I would suggest you to just prepare yourself for losing him and always keep another insight on mule/atma bank/stash. Invest some points (up to 20) into GM if you dont have enough +skills from equipment.
And of course, insight is bad rw for merc on hell.|||Quote:

im not following you...the reason being?
@ OP: consider crafting a blood armor or an upgraded boneflesh too. ur merc wont take a hell lot a beating anyway|||Quote:

Let me clarify my statement, I meant it for the actual build mentioned in this thread.
With CE necromancer, you will need you merc to kill things (getting first corpse and CB'ing bosses) and insight doesnt provide decent damage nor good CB. Why would you use insight on merc when you can "hide" it under iron golem and put something else for merc (infy/obedience/hone sundan)?|||I agree with you, but (besides for the CB) Insight with a decent ED and CS roll is pretty close (better if both are perfect) to Obedience ito straight DPS.|||well on players 1-3 amped monsters drop FAST to mercs insight cryptic axe without CB, usually i swap his helm for guillies for bosses, but I guess ill have to just test myself!|||Quote:

ok, i fully agree

But I'll write it anyway..
I rerolled my Fishy too, and the goal was to make a IG from Insight that don't die due the "Positioning Glitch" while teleporting into mobs and such.
So what I did was to remove the 20 HP that I've put into Mages and instead use the points to max GM. I use a ****ty CTA to boost the life, but I'm not sure if it's necessary for you. Note my gear is pretty good so you maybe want to spread out the HPs on GM and SR accordingly.
My IG haven't died, yet, and I run Nihlathak in a 8 player game all the time (CE and VIPERS), CS and Travi too.
It also survives UT, but this is more or less due to a dedicated BO:er and lifetap.
In matter of fact, I've done everything you could possible do in d2 with this char and with this Insight IG.
Tele is must, and Lifetap is really handy if you see your merc and IG getting weary it's like a Rejuvenation potion for them especially the IG because rejuvs doesn't work on them

Dim Vision is great too, and oh.. I play HC so maybe I'm more cautious then the average SC player, who knows..
My merc setup is the following:
Helm: Eth Andariel's Visage with as high LL as possible. Socked with a 15 ias jewel.
Armor: Any good E-Bug armor - Treachery (I'm such a Treachery junkie when it comes to my mercs)
Weapon: Sup Eth Tresher - Obedience (Infinity if you can afford it). - (Thresher or Giant Thresher is the ones you want to get for this setup because of their base attack speed -10).
With this setup you will hit the attack speed BP for your merc and with 40 CB it's a boss killer indeed. The fade from Treachery will make up for the 15 ias jewel in Andy's instead of a Ral. And it's cheap as !"# too

Well like I stated earlier this is maybe not what you're looking for but I had similar problems and I was about to ask you guys here but I figured it out myself
