Trang Oul's Lindwurm: PVP/PVM Guide

[:1]Trang Oul's Lindwurm: PVP Guide

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You lie sleeping... Surrounded by your tools of death and decay you slumber quietly, almost as if you were being visited by death itself. You feel a sharp pain! Cold steel has pierced your flesh. You open your eyes, but are unable to move the pain is excruciating. You realized you've been poisoned. Shadowy figures stand on top of you, staring, murmuring something you can not quite hear. The pain is unbearable it feels as if demons were tearing at your flesh... you lose yourself to the burning, searing pain, and become unconscious.

You awaken chained to the wet mossy floor of what appears to be a temple of some sort. You try to break from from the chains but your strength has been sliced and shredded to a sliver. What stands before you... Only those who've been to hell and back can begin to describe...

The deity of the Necromancers has chosen you to walk a path only few shall follow and fewer shall survive. Trang Oul is awaiting your response... He has chosen you for unnamed and unquestionable reasons. Do you accept?"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

First and foremost I'd like to say this build is NOT intended to be a top tier PVP build. You will not beat every class, you will not dominate in a game 7v1. What you will be able to do is try out a build, using mostly cheap items, using a different playstyle/method from other Necromancer builds all whilst tweaking it to your liking.

Advantages:

1) Style points.

2) Quite unique and very likely never used and unheard of.

3) Very high -Enemy poison resistance and poison dmg

4) High survivabilty against physical attackers (Barbs, WWsin, Smiters, etc)

5) Style points.

6)Extremely fun to play.

7) I have to add this in here... Beating opponents who use "GG" items with your set that people seem to give away for free.

Disadvantages:

1) Not a top tier dueler (Hammerdins, Bone Nec, etc.)

2) Fast cast = slower than slow

3) People will hate you. Seriously. They can't stand losing to someone in Trang's set.

4) People will try to run to town in pub duels. (you'll stop them though )

5) No teleport. If you're used to having it and can't play anything without it... Stop here.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overview:

This build will take advantage of the FULL Trang Oul set. Your main attack will be poison nova backed up be the hellish fire skills granted to you by the cult of Rathma and Trang Oul himself. You will not have teleport, meaning you must use your wit and deviousness in order to win matches.

Unfortunately the Trang Oul set is currently bugged lowering your fast cast rate. So instead of firing off your Poison Nova with disregard, you will be making educated attacks with your Poison Nova, fireskills, and a few bone skills aswell.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stats:

STR: Just like most other builds, just enough to wear your gear. Factor in our Torch and Anni, aswell as any other items that will NEVER be taken off or switched.

DEX: The curse of enigma... Without teleport you will be a sitting duck. Max Block is a must for the build. Furthermore, Trang's set allows you to WALK at your RUN speed. That means full speed with MAX block.

VIT: Everything else. Necromancers get horrible returns for vit/life, but anything helps.

Energy: Depending on how comfortable you feel with your gear, you may want to add some here. However, survivability should be your main concern.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SKILLS:

20 Poison Dagger

20 Poison Explosion

20 Poison Nova

1 Bone Armor

20 Bone Wall

~10-20 Bone Prison

1 Bone Spirit

1 Lower Resist

1 Fire Golem

With this skill set, you are maximizing poison dmg, and building a strong defense with Bone Armor. Lower resists compliments Poison Nova nicely, and the Fire Golem can many times finish an opponent for you with his fire aura. Poison Nova does not kill unless your opponent is at 1 HP. So you will have to find a means to finish off your foes with either bone skills, Fire Golem, fire skills, or another poison nova.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BREAKPOINTS:

The vampire form is very odd. It lowers your fast cast to molasses like speeds and also tweaks your FHR. With this build fast cast will not be a main concern since it is currently bugged. FHR is definitely a concern and you'll need to hit a decent breakpoint to stay alive.

Fast Cast:

Taken from www.Battle.net/diablo2exp

"Note: wearing this set will increase casting delay resulting in slower casting (even with fast cast items). This is a bug and has been reported"

WOW! +MORE mana regen and a nice +50 resistance aswell. +3 Necro skills and the most important and fun bonus, Vampire form!

The set itself you can get rather cheap. Most people only use the belt. The hardest piece of the set for me to obtain was the helm simply because it was a bone visage and didn't drop as often as the other items.

Boots: I prefer Treks for the FHR and the +STR/Vit, but this is entirely up to you. Whichever choice you make, consider what you're lacking and go for that.

Rings/Amulets: Since wearing Trang's Girth grants you immunity from being frozen, you can wear BK rings/SOJs without fear. Maras is great for your amulet or you can use a rare +2 necro amulet with nice mods.

Weapon: The best weapon for this build is Death's Web. The +2 skills, +2 PnB, aswell as the massive -40-50% poison res is awesome. Be prepared to spend a little on this, but it's worth every HR. (Socket: 5/5 DIE Poison Facet)

Sockets: I really encourage you to look at what you need and prefer. If you need additional resistance slap a p diamond in that sheild. If you need more FHR use Shael in your armor or helm. However, I must say that at least one x/x Poison Facet is mandatory and it MUST be a DIE and not lvl. Many times if you lose a duel the "DIE nova" will kill your opponent if he is at low health. It happens quite often and is pretty darn cool.

Inventory: You definitely want Poison/Bone GCs to enhance the dmg of your poison nova. I went for mobility and speed with my Lindwurm. I suggest using PnB +FHR to hit a breakpoint if you haven't been able to make it. I also recommend PnB +Run/Walk GCs. This will improve your speed greatly. Small charms should fill any gaps you have, resistance, more life, more r/w, etc. And just to state the obvious... Use a nice Necro torch and Anni :wink3: .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PVP:

If you have played a Necromancer before the days of Enigma, this build will feel quite nostalgic. You'll be using bonewalls to manipulate the battlefield, quick movement and timed attacks is a must to win.

I won't list a breakdown of how to beat every class, but I will provide basic ideas and tips for dueling aswell as listing difficulty levels against more common opponents. (* being easiest ***** being hardest).

MELEE/Physical Attackers

Smiter * to **

This is an EXTREMELY easy duel. I win against "GG" smiters at least 90% of the time. If I don't win it's usually a draw (both of us die). Remember that Trang Oul's set allows you to walk at RUN speed. Make sure you're walking to take advantage of the max block. Smiters will charge to get close and try to smite you. However, between max block, bone armor, your run speed, and the small range smite you have good odds of survival.

My #1 way to beat smiters is before they are on screen, drop 1-3 meteors near you (depending on how much time you have) and remember to use your lower resist before you he gets on screen. Then make the smiter come to you. He'll most likely charge into you like a rhino and ignore the fire. Now is the time to hit him with a poison nova. After you've successfully hit him, run towards one of the fire pits that the meteor has left behind. He'll charge right into the flames and die. Extremely easy, and quite funny to see. If the smiter tries to run away, drop long firewalls and try to make him run/charge through them. Furthermore, remember you have a fire golem with Holy Fire aura. Summon him near an opponent with low hit points and let your fire golem finish him off.

BvC (Barb vs Caster) * to ***

The BvC barely inches into *** range only due to the fact that tele/WW can be deadly if you don't pay attention and react quickly. Thankfully for us Trang oul's allows us to have run speed (while walking) and have 75% block at the same time. This helps against BvCs and I would say is the number one reason this is an easy duel. Use your speed to make WW miss and punish missed WW with poison nova. Meteor can also be used to finish off a BvC. Only cast meteor when your opponent is not near or you have a few seconds to spare. Missing a nova cast could cost you the duel. Furthermore, be wary of "nova hopping". This is a method that I have seen skilled BvCs use against me. Only the outer ring of the nova will hit anything so do not try and spam nova recklessly. If you waste a cast the BvC can tele right over it, on top of you and WW. Also remember to recast bone armor when necessary as this will save you from taking a large hit to your health.

*Sidenote: Remember that Beserk is magic dmg and dmg from that will not be stopped by bone armor.

Bowazon ** to ****

A defensive Bowazon will be hard to beat. On top of that zons have the ability to dodge your nova. However, you do have three things that help a lot. Bonewall, bone armor, and Max block (at run speed). What I usually do is set up bone walls, and progress closer and closer to the bowazon. This soaks up the guided arrows and provides you cover. When I'm close enough I summon a clay golem to take the hits and rush right into her face and cast several novas. Do not let the bowazon gain any ground and you'll eventually hit her with a nova. Let your fire golem finish this fight as he serves two purposes. Soaking up damage and killing off the bowazon with his aura.

If a bowazon is playing too defensively, try sending out spirits to pressure her into quickening the pace of the duel.

Shapeshift Druids * to **

Fury: Treat them like smiters. Easy kills.

Rabies: Be extremely careful as rabies can kill you unlike your nova which only brings enemies to 1 HP. Do not let your golem infect you.

Fireclaw: One swipe and you'll pretty much be dead. Use clay golem to slow them down if you don't have enough speed to gain some room. Should be a fairly easy fight.

Casters:

Hammerdins * to ***

Avoid the tele/hammers. This can be a ugly fight if you just stand there and spam cast skills. You need to avoid the quick tele/hammers and counter with a poison nova right as he lands. Do not attempt to use fire skills on Hammerdins unless they are charging around and aren't using tele. Defensive Hammerdins are the hardest to beat, but aren't impossible. Use your clay golem (NOT fire golem in this case. The fire golem costs too much mana to keep recasting) to take hits on invisible hammer fields. This is a good method to show where you should and should not go. I like to use bonewalls aswell as its a cheap mana skill and effective in avoiding hammer fields.

LONG RANGE casters *** to ****1/2

You are going to have a tough time here. If they play defensively you'll need to run and spam spirits in order for them to give chase. If you land a hit back off immediately and try to finish them off with a spirit or golem. Do not attempt a second nova unless you're sure it will hit. 200% FCR sorcs are hard to deal with but the more agressive players will find themselves in a world of hurt when they tele too close to you. Keep moving and remember to only cast nova if you think it will hit.

Near impossible **** to *****

Windies/Bone Necros... The bane of this build. One solid Bone prison and you're toast. Without tele all you can do is cast firewall to break the prison and hopefully survive. VERY tough matchup here.

Windies who tele stomp you will be difficult to beat, but not impossible. They have minion stack that will help them out, but those minions will die within the first nova. Remember to avoid "nova hopping" and you may have a good chance at winning. Get as much r/w speed as you can for this fight.

That's it for now. If there is enough interest I'll post a breakdown for every class.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General Tips:

Trang Oul's grants you access to a few fire spells which may seem weak at first, but coupled with your lower resist these spells pack enough punch to make them a very viable tool in disposing of enemies... Firewall being one. Considered extremely weak in PVP, this spell actually compliments you quite nicely.

If you land a poison nova and are looking for a way to finish the enemy, try a firewall. With your gear you are blessed with a very LONG firewall. It will stretch out far enough to hit enemies off screen as well as finish off runners. Meteor can be used in the same way, but more for when you are being chased and can time it right.

Fire golem is your best friend. Summon him right on top of a person you just nova'd and he'll do the trick.

Meteor is a very nice "pre-duel" skill to use. Right before or right as a duel starts, lay meteors in strategic spots that your opponent may travel through. This may seem weak, but it definitely is not when your opponent is down to very low health and is surrounded by fire.

It's critical that you use bonewall. You can stop people in their tracks for a moment enough to gain some ground, or enough to fire off a poison nova. It's very useful. You can also avoid attacks like FOH, Guided Arrow, Bone Spirit, etc.

I have a few videos of myself dueling and I'll post those as soon as I have time to edit them, but for now... a screenshot of my latest duel game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONCLUSION:

This is still a work in progress and I will update as time goes by. This build is really for those who've tried everything and want something new and fun to mess arond with. I will try to update soon and possibly with a video or two!|||Nicely written, you beat me to it.

Anyways I also duel with Trang set, I'll share some things I found useful.

Infernostride boots are better than treks IMO. It raises your max fire resistance and makes me max out fire res which is a weak spot for the set.

Having a teleport amulet is available for those that NEED to tely and get out of those Prisons. The NEED for using it should be minimal because you walk faster than most can run.

Also socketing Sols into the helm, armor, and shield increases survivability when you have bone armor on.

DeathWeb is expensive a good alternative would be Blackbog's Sharp

Also utilize Decp more in your tactics the slow effect keeps them in the metor fire longer.|||Smiters will kill you @

If they use charge.

If they can tele lock, or if they have widows.

You can get out of the Vamp form with a beast ... iirc. Nothing that you''d need thou,

If the bvc's are any good they'll prob have widows combined with leap, or they'll tele lock / whirl.|||I've fought countless smiters. Charge does nothing but stall me a bit. I'll post some videos soon. Furthermore, BvCs with leap are not a problem. Widowmaker is also not a huge problem thanks to Bonewall soaking them all up and your golem!

I knew a lot of people would be skeptical so that's why I'm making a few videos to prove that this build/gearset is viable and quite fun. I really mean it when I say BvCs and Smiters are your easiest fights with thi build.

I've fought my bit of BvCs and Smiters, all ranging from craptacular and very well played and geared.

Also, just a side not on tele/whirl. This doesn't hurt as much as it would a normal caster. Why? Recastable bone armor for one, and the fact you have full speed with max block. Tele whirl is just another opportunity to cast nova on them mid whirl or when they finish a tele. I can tank quite a bit of WW with my necro.

Videos soon once I edit it!|||cool guide, reminds me of the one I wrote a few years ago, but never made it into stickies. I must have made at least one character like this on every ladder season. The only thing that always sucks is trying to trade for a Death's Web. They are always in short supply and very expensive. To get any descent killing power you need it though. You could have mentioned to people how -res items affects poison length duration, and also how there is a poison length duration penalty in hell, which also makes you much stronger if you duel in hell.|||Yeah!!! Amazing guide man, and well written. I've been waiting for you to put this up for some time (before I go back into hiding) :wink3:

For those who don't know, this build is serious gg, I vouche. I've been dueling with Sonny for quite some time and he drops players so fast it's almost sickening, he steals all the spot light and leaves even the most awesome hammerdins, barbs, etc running to their bodies confused lol. It's hilarious watching an opponent get dropped in one orb, attempt to race back to town just to be namelocked by firewall :wink3: .

So yeah, what I love about this build is the tactical aspect... and he did a really good job reflecting on it. It's the oldschool tactics and strategy involved. A lot of builds you see these days... auradins who just run run run around, hammerdins who tele+hammer, etc, they basically just do their "one thing" they do well... but this build is totally different from what I've seen 'cause it's the combination of so many different skills and tactics working together and it's truly awesome to see him completely own pubs with it, it kinda makes me jealous.

One thing, I notice you didn't mention your use of Harmony bow on switch hehe, just a minor tidbit but it was still pretty crafty of you

Well done man, I can't wait to see some vids in the future. I think I may still have one of us dueling, me getting owned

(Sticky please)|||Not sure if I should have made a new thread or put this in my guide thread... If a mod sees it fit, please merge. Thank you.

Hey all, this is my first video (of many hopefully) of my full trang set PVP Necro. Unfortunately I lost almost all of my clips that I had saved on a different hard drive. This video consists of a few PVP games I had a few nights ago. Not the best video out there and I wish I had my old clips to share, but fun to watch nonetheless. Thanks and enjoy .

I actually do use almost all PnB +r/w skillers. I use one PnB FHR skiller. Also a few of my small charms are r/w. I highly recommend r/w skillers and small charms as this helps immensely with your mobility.
